Posted by Johnson Yike on March 3, 2010

Feb 25, 2010. The time is here again for the congregation of an elite group of people whom have worked diligently and professionally to attain a formal certification that is backed by the knowledge, wisdom and experience who have walked that path before. It is the first Quarterly Forum for 2010 of the MSCPMP Circle (http://www.asiaictpm.org/mpc.php).

The Quarterly Forum #1 was conducted in the exclusive “Japan Club of Kuala Lumpur”.

The Japan Club of Kuala Lumpur location

We had the pleasure of filling our stomachs first with authentic Japanese food (was told prepared by authentic Japanese chefs) before filling our minds. This experience is enhanced by the meeting of friends and fellow Project Management Professionals (PMP).

After we have done having our fill, the session began with the Founder of the MSCPMP Circle, SK Khor PMP CSM shared with us the New Mission of the MSCPMP Circle.

This was a well received Mission (elaborated in the video above) especially to individuals who are looking for ways and opportunities to power UP their Careers. To kick start that mission, the founder SK Khor PMP CSM has invited a special guest speaker, Ms. Valerie Jaques to present on;

Why a majority of Project Management Professionals (PMP) cannot move up in their career?

by MS Valerie Jaques, MA Psychology and Consultant Psychologist
Expert in Employee Assistance Program support services and organisational consulting
.

Ms. Valerie Jaques was both engaging and humorous in her delivery to briefly share with us why people generally have difficulty moving up in the career. I look forward listening to her again in a more in-depth session on how we can challenge our minds and overcome the mental obstacles to greater success.

Now we moved on to the main speaker for this evening, Mr. P. Sivananthan LLB, CLP, PgD Tech Mgmt

The first question Mr. Siva posed to the audiences; “As Project Managers, do you deliver a ‘project’ or a ‘contract’?” have most of the people in the room quite engaged. The general response to the question is, they deliver ‘Projects’ (typical of Project Managers but it is also dependent on perspective). However, the real answer is ‘whatever is in the contract’ because when there is any verification (or dispute), the first thing all parties should look at is ‘The Contract’.

As the session progressed, he shared real life scenarios and some based on his experience, and answered more questions that the audience have submitted and some from the floor.

It was truly one of the best forums we have had till the point that the venue Management had to ‘chase’ us out to prepare for another even that was taking place later that evening. I heard from the organizers that an encore session will be organized very soon, for more details, visit: http://www.asiaictpm.org/mpc_event.php?id=93.
